- Add £5.90 per extra surname at the same address.
- Book online at royalmail.com/redirection at least 5 working days before your move date.
- You'll need proof of ID and proof of your old address — passport, driving licence or a recent bank statement.
Who you should notify directly (not just redirect)
- Your bank, mortgage lender and credit card providers — statutory obligation, not optional.
- HMRC, DWP and the DVLA — driving licence updates are free but legally required within 14 days.
- GP surgery, dentist and any specialist clinics.
- Car and home insurers — new postcode changes your premium.
- Employer's HR/payroll for your P60 and tax records.
- Subscription services: Amazon, Netflix, Spotify, meal boxes, delivery services.
Redirect gotchas
- Redirect covers Royal Mail post only — not couriers like DPD, Evri or Yodel. Update each retailer's account manually.
- Registered post and legal documents still divert, but sender may charge a fee.
- You can extend a redirect once the initial period ends, up to a total of 4 years.
