- Give your gas and electric supplier at least 48 hours' notice. You keep the same supplier at the new address unless you actively switch.
- Compare tariffs — moving is the perfect trigger to lock in a cheaper fixed deal.
- Book broadband transfer 14 days ahead. Openreach engineer slots fill up fast in month-ends.
Water, council tax and TV licence
- Water: contact both the outgoing and incoming water company (postcode-based, no choice of supplier in England & Wales).
- Council tax: notify BOTH the old and new council on your move day — you'll get a closing bill and a new one.
- TV Licence: log in and change address online at tvlicensing.co.uk — it takes 30 seconds.
